How I Stayed On Protocol In The Midst of Chaos
Like many of you reading this, I have struggled with my weight most all my life. I have tried, and failed, at many “diets”. I always lost weight, but then it would find its way back to me!
I never understood how my body works hormonally and chemically. The physiological side. I only paid attention to the calories, or the carbohydrates, or fats. I never thought about how those macronutrients were being assimilated by my body—or not. Then, when I would “fail” at a program, I beat myself up. The psychological side. But, the mantra I use today is “you can, if you want”!
A recent example of this was about two weeks ago, I got the call that my oldest daughter was on her way to the hospital to deliver our second grandson. Very exciting. But, I am on protocol right now for my yearly clean up, and I had no idea how long we would be at the hospital.
What did I do in my haste to get to the hospital? I took 5 extra minutes and filled up a to-go bag of all the veggies I had, and way more than I needed of the protein meal replacements I use, as well as water and other approved drinks. No excuses to deviate.
As the day went on, my son-in-law got hungry and he did not want the hospital food. So, what did I do? I used the delivery app on my phone to order him some food—nothing I could eat. But, when it came, I didn’t care. Why? Because I had what I needed to fuel my body. I ended up spending the night in the hospital with my daughter then 2nd night—and did the same thing. I had what I needed.
What I realized, in the middle of the night, taking care of my new grandson (he was delivered healthy), was YOU CAN, IF YOU WANT. No matter what curves are thrown at you on a day-to-day basis, you don’t have to throw in the towel. You do not have to succumb to the world’s pressures and last-minute curve balls. There is always a way to stay on point, if you want.
Do you desire to be healthy and to fit into your clothes MORE than you want that ‘thing’? Don’t give in. Don’t give up. You are worth it. You deserve to be well, more than you deserve that junk. Don’t get me wrong, there are times in my life that I will participate in some “fun foods”—but, not while I am in the middle of changing my chemistry and getting well.
The next time you are faced with a situation that feels overwhelming, just remember: YOU CAN, IF YOU WANT!
