3 Garlic cloves, chopped
1 1/2 Ginger, chopped
2 star anise pods
1 Cinnamon Stick
4 Cups Beef broth, low sodium
1 Tsp Kosher Salt
1/2 Tsp Pepper
2 Zucchini, spiralized
1/2 Cup Bean sprout
12 Oz Ground sirloin, thinly sliced

Topping

Fresh basil leaves, to taste
Fresh mint, to taste
Fresh cilantro, to taste
Lime slice, to taste
French green onion, chopped
Sriracha, to taste

Star anise is, oddly enough, not biologically related to regular anise, but they both contain anethole, which is why they have a similar flavor.

Star anise is quite versatile, and is used in the traditional five-spice powder from Chinese cooking. It can also be used in a French recipe for mulled wine, and when you add star anise to coffee it will deepen and enrich the flavor.
