Choose a sunny day to invite some friends over for a backyard BBQ and grill up our healthy BBQ Portobello Bun Burger recipe! Portobello mushroom buns are a healthier alternative to regular hamburger buns. If you are watching your carb intake, but don’t want to miss out on eating those juicy burgers, this low-carb recipe is for you! You no longer have to eat the patty without the bun!
4 Portobello mushromms, Wiped clean with a damp cloth
1 Tbsp Grape seed oil
1 Tbsp Low sodium soy sauce
2 Garlic cloves, Minced
2 Tsp Dried Oregano
Sea salt & pepper, Pinch
17 Oz Extra lean ground beef
1 Tbsp Dijon mustard
Preheat the grill to high heat. In a small bowl, combine oil, garlic, oregano, sea salt, and pepper.
Scrape out the gills to clean the mushrooms.
Coat the mushroom with the mixture.
Place the Portobello mushroom caps onto the grill and cook them for approximately 6 minutes or until they are heated through.
Combine the ground beef, Dijon mustard, egg, salt, and pepper in a separate bowl to make two patties.
Grill the patties for 6 minutes on each side or until desired.
Place the burger between the Portobello buns. Top the burger with your choice of toppings.

A tip for cleaning portobello mushrooms after removing the stem is to scrape off the gills with the tip of a spoon. This will ensure they don’t stain the cap or your hands, as they can give food an unappealing brown color.
