One of the most important parts of your journey towards health, wellness and weight management is learning how to work in YOUR kitchen. Many of us are extremely busy in our day-to-day lives and have not embraced the importance of cooking and eating at home. However, one of the most valuable habits you can create is food preparation and planning. I have found some wonderful, and fun kitchen gadgets ( I am a big gadget girl) that help me out. Here are some of my favorites: 


I love my salad spinner because its fun! But it also serves a good purpose because you can cut, chop and spin dry a bunch of salad greens at one time so you have it ready to make a quick salad or two. Also, when lettuce is dry it holds dressing better so you will need less. 


Steaming our foods make it much healthier, and lower in fat and calories because you don’t need to use butter or oil.  You can use broth to impart more flavors. Additionally, making a big bunch at one time will save you time during the week because it only requires reheating. 


You can make fresh dressings in a snap and blend soups or stews. This kitchen gadget’s whipping effect adds creaminess and volume without adding fats, so you can more easily reach your weight goals. 


Probably my new favorite food to prep is “riced” cauliflower and the food processor makes it so easy and fast. I love the food processor for making cauliflower hummus, too. It can do amazing things with easy cleanup. 


My all time favorite gadget that I use at least once per week in my kitchen due to my crazy schedule, this one saves me. This is a great kitchen gadget that allows you to put together all of your ingredients and, a few hours later, have a complete, cooked meal. They are great for making soups and stews and vegetables. This is another method that cuts calories because you don’t need added fats. I use items like broths, fresh salsa, soy sauce and water to make the food moist.


One of the biggest diet-busters is the overuse of oil in cooking. This gadget helps you to add a healthy amount of oil without overdoing it. If you can use this to spray your pans you will surely use less than if you just pour it in. This is also helpful instead of pouring oils or dressing onto your salads, try spraying them. 


I have to teach on a weekly basis the importance of portion control. One of the best ways to pay attention to this detail is to use a scale to weigh out your proteins. Once you do this a few times you will probably get pretty good at eyeballing it, but you need to know for sure!  The scale helps you stay on your mission and reach your goals. 


Both a lemon squeezer and a citrus zester are kitchen gadgets that allow you to add flavor without fat and calories. With more flavor from limes and lemons you’ll be able to rely less on oil, butter, salt, and other additives for taste when trying to lose weight. I LOVE my lemon squeezer because it also doesn’t let the seeds get into my dressings and foods. That is a very small but important point.
